The story so far…

“Ancient. Alien. Alive.” was the intriguing tagline that announced B7 Comics comic book mini-series Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies a bold all-new four-issue sci-fi mini-series. Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies, the first book project in its B7 Comics line, written by John Freeman (Doctor Who), with art by Neil Edwards (Spider-Man, Superman), covers by Alex Ronald (Judge Dredd, The Lost Fleet) coloured by Martin Baines (Thunderbirds) and lettered by Jim Campbell (2000AD).

In 2121, an alien presence has awoken in the Antarctic, its secrets potentially spelling the end of all human life – or transforming it into something new, but not without cost. A crack team of Alliance commandos, side by side with the psychic Lily Winters, a woman with her own agenda when it comes to this extra-terrestrial threat, discover far more than they expected when their mission goes dangerously wrong.

Pilgrim #2 – the adventure’s only just getting started…

With Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies Issue 1 now out in the wild and issue 2 at the lettering stage, with John Freeman busy scripting the final two issues, we’re making good headway to completing the mini-series.

Sadly, loving comics just isn’t enough to get them made right now. One of our other projects, the graphic novel Hancock: The Lad Himself (which is now available) found costs had nearly doubled at the point it went to the printers, just a couple of months on from the original quote, which really challenges cashflow when these increases are sprung on us!

But comics are about creativity, stories and art; they help educate and improve wellbeing – so we’re definitely sticking at it and everyone who has bought a copy of Pilgrim so far or has contributed, thank you so much for sticking with us too.

We’d love our publishing schedule to move faster, but cost implications overall have slowed us down and the production team all have other commitments to help pay their own bills. Ah, the joy of freelancing.

A few years ago it would have been cheaper to print on gold leaf, (we’re not entirely joking here) but things being as they are, paper and printing are continuing to be an expensive commodity.

Here we go again!

So with that in mind and to help give things a boost, we’ve re-launched our crowdfunding campaign, but this time have shifted it over to the SHIFT STORE.

If you’ve already backed issues 1-4 in our previous Kickstarter, don’t worry, this won’t impact you receiving the remaining issues. But all contributions are welcome and if any of the new rewards catch your eye, such as the set of cover art postcards, another opportunity to own one of our Lily figurines or you would just like to show your support for indie publishing with a further donation, that would be very welcome and gratefully received.

We also have another cover artist to add to our stellar line up! Staz Johnson, best known for his work on Judge Dredd and DC Comics’ Robin and Catwoman series, will be creating a special Pilgrim issue 2 cover, exclusively for this campaign.

If you’re new to the Pilgrim series, don’t worry since you can also add a copy of issue# 1 to your reward enabling you to catch-up with the story so far.

The last thing we want to do is leave the four-part series incomplete – no-one likes being left with a cliffhanger that goes nowhere or an unresolved story, so your support on this leg will make the world of difference in helping us to bring the Pilgrim story to a gripping and satisfying conclusion.

ABOUT B7 COMICS

B7 Comics is a brand-new comics imprint from UK indie B7 Media, the company best known for a new wave of cinematic sounding audio drama, including I, Robot, Blake’s 7, Dan Dare: The Audio Adventures, Venna’s Planet and dramas for the BBC and Audible, including The Effect, The Martian Chronicles, The Space Race and Mahabharata Now.

The Pilgrim comic project kicked off last year, with a special teaser story exclusively published in SHIFT Magazine, drawn by Wam Nick and now available to read on the Pilgrim2121.com website.

The first 36-page issue, featuring 22 pages of comic strip, was released in October 2022, and the second issue is almost complete.

Series covers will be by Alex Ronald, with variant covers on #1 by Alex and Neil Edwards and for #2 Staz Johnson.
